Udc 532.517:537.584 the Subgrid Problem of the Thermal Convection in the Earth’s Liquid Core

چکیده
The problem of the turbulent thermal convection in the Earth’s liquid core is considered. Following assumptions on decreasing of the spatial scales due to the rapid rotation, we propose the subgrid model of the eddy diffusivity, which is used in the large-scale model. This approach makes it possible to model realistic regimes with small Ekman and Rossby numbers (E ∼ 10, Ro ∼ 10) and a sufficiently large Rayleigh number Ra ∼ 10. The obtained estimate of the averaged kinetic energy is comparable with observations. The model includes rotation of the solid core due to the viscous torque.

Numerical Study of Electro-thermo-convection in a Differentially Heated Cavity Filled with a Dielectric Liquid Subjected to Partial Unipolar Injection
The Coulomb force applied by an electric field on any charge present in a dielectric liquid may cause fluid motion. At high applied electric fields in an insulating liquid, electric charge carriers are created at metallic/liquid interfaces, a process referred to as ion injection, and result from electrochemical reactions. In this article we deals with the problem of electro thermal convection i...

[1] All models that invoke convection to explain the observed seismic variations in Earth’s inner core require unstable inner core stratification. Previous work has assumed that chemical effects are stabilizing and focused on thermal convection, but recent calculations indicate that the thermal conductivity at core temperatures and pressures is so large that the inner core must cool entirely by...

In this paper, we have investigated the chaotic behavior of thermal convection in couple stress liquid saturated porous layer subject to gravity, heated from below and cooled from above, based on theory of dynamical system. A low dimensional Lorenz- like model is obtained by using Galerkin-truncation approximation. We found that there is proportional relation between scaled couple ...

This paper deals with the theoretical investigation of the thermal instability of a thin layer of electrically conducting micropolar rotating fluid, heated from below in the presence of uniform vertical magnetic field in porous medium. A dispersion relation is obtained for a flat fluid layer, contained between two free boundaries using a linear stability analysis theory, and normal mode analysi...
متن کاملThermal and magnetic evolution of the Earth’s core
The magnetic field of the Earth is generated by convection in the liquid-core and the energy necessary for this process comes from the cooling of the core which provide several buoyancy sources. The thermodynamics of this system is used to relate the Ohmic dissipation in the core to all energy sources and to model the thermal evolution of the core. If the same dissipation is maintained just bef...
